Meet My Southdown Babydoll Sheep

I am on the waitlist for 2 - wethered Southdown Babydoll Sheep for pickup in the Spring of 2026.  The Southdown is one of the oldest purebred sheep breeds in the world. The breed originated centuries ago in the hills of Sussex, England, long known as the “Downs.” Southdowns are docile and easy to manage, and because of their moderate size, they require less space than most other breeds of sheep. 

 

Wool

 

Babydoll Southdown wool is one of the finest wools of all the British breeds.  It is short (about 2 to 3 inches) and springy, soft and bouncy, with a surprisingly strong underlying disposition.  The micron count typically ranges from 23 to 29 which means many people can wear it comfortably next to the skin.  When spun it produces yarn with a lot of cushion and elasticity.  Since it has more barbs

Males are typically more confident, so easily become friendly pets with some attention.  Their care is consistent and the most simple.  Raising wethers is great for “testing the waters” and learning about sheep.
